  1. With new resolve, Mr. Gonsalves returned to Toronto and formed Kobo Town. Drawing its name from the Port-of-Spain neighborhood where calypso was born, Kobo Town’s sophomore effort, Jumbie in the Jukebox, issued in April on Stonetree / Cumbancha Records, is an album that faithfully knows its past and exuberantly sees it future.
  2. This song, Road to Fyzabad, can be found on Kobo Town's album Jumbie in the Jukebox. The song remembers a failed labor uprising centered around the town of Fyzabad in Trinidad and which spread throughout the West Indies. Listen to songs like this and more on the KUNM Global Music Show every Monday night from 10 pm - 1 am Mountain Standard.
  3. What Kobo Town‘s Jumbie in the Jukebox reminds me of, more than anything, is the last few Bob Marley albums, Exodus and Survival and Uprising. Gonsalves is actually a better lyricist than Marley, more specific and a better sketcher of character, and the differences between reggae and calypso (or Trinidad vs Jamaica accents) are, to my ears.

  6. Kobo Town’s second album Jumbie in the Jukebox will be released in early by Stonetree and Cumbancha. The new album was produced Ivan Duran, whose masterful work on the now classic Wátina from Andy Palacio & the Garifuna Collective earned a WOMEX Award and was selected by fibawnekekocivanmorebattlure.xyzinfo as “The Greatest World Music Album of All Time.”.
  7. An energetic calypso-reggae band founded by Trinidad-born songwriter Drew Gonsalves, Kobo Town is known for their vibrant blend of social awareness and acoustic rhythm in their lively music. Jumbie in the Jukebox is their latest album, titled in reference to the boogie-man-like "jumbie.

  9. “Jumbie In The Jukebox” by Kobo Town might have been released in but it is new to me and I am really impressed with this album. I don't think I ever enjoyed an album on its first playing, by someone or a band who is new to me, quite as much as I have enjoyed “Jumbie In The Jukebox”/5(16).
